Dave Navarro disgusted by new TV show about mother’s murder

Rocker Dave Navarro has taken aim at a U.S. newsman for moving ahead with a TV documentary examining his mother’s murder after he refused to take part.
Each episode of Geraldo Rivera’s Murder in the Family explores a dark time in the life of a celebrity, and the latest instalment of the series, which aired in America on Saturday (08Dec18), focused on the death of Connie Navarro, who was fatally shot by her ex-boyfriend John Riccardi in 1983, when the Jane’s Addiction guitarist was 15.
Connie’s best friend, Susan Marshall Jory, was also killed in the tragedy.
Dave personally recounted the painful period in his life in his 2015 documentary, Mourning Son, but he didn’t appreciate having Rivera dig into his past just to draw an audience for the new show.
The musician, who is an advocate for domestic violence victims and their children, hit out at the TV personality in a since-deleted weekend post on Instagram, writing, “I find it really disappointing that Geraldo Rivera’s new show would ask me to participate in an episode about the tragedies in my life and when I said no, they decided to run it anyway with inaccurate facts and total abandon for the triggering effect (sic) a program of this nature could have on the families.
“I understand that true crime is a big moneymaker, in fact I am a fan of programs such as this, but when they chase down the dollar instead of having the feelings of the loved ones in mind, that’s when I have to say something…”
Riccardi was convicted in 1994 and is serving a life sentence in prison.
Rivera has yet to publicly respond to Navarro’s outburst.
