Demi Lovato announces career break after Twitter backlash

Singer Demi Lovato is embarking on an extended hiatus in 2017.
The Cool for the Summer hitmaker broke the news to fans via her Twitter account on Tuesday (04Oct16).
She wrote, “So excited for 2017. Taking a break from music and the spotlight.. I am not meant for this business and the media”.
The unexpected announcement was made just six hours after Lovato found herself embroiled in controversy, relating to comments she made about Taylor Swift in a new interview with America’s Glamour magazine. During the discussion, Demi slammed her fellow singer for “tearing Katy Perry down” while promoting her hit single Bad Blood, a song reportedly written about the pop divas’ infamous feud.
When Swift fans caught wind of Lovato’s remarks, they attacked the 24-year-old online, prompting Demi to defend herself against the heavy criticism.
“I get asked questions. I answer them. Sue me,” she tweeted, before noting in another message: “Also don’t forget that words can be taken out of context when doing interviews.. still not apologizing for saying what everyone want to say (sic)”.
Demi concluded: “I don’t understand why people care so much about what I say in interviews? Do y’all watch the news? Don’t y’all got s**t to worry about?”
This isn’t the first time Lovato has buckled from the attacks of others online. Back in June (16), the star quit Twitter and Instagram after Internet trolls took aim at her. However, she returned to the social media platforms just one day later.
“F**k this.. I’m back b**ches. And I’m coming back more honest than ever,” she wrote at the time of her online return, before tweeting out an emoji of a smiling face with sunglasses, a middle finger, and a mischievous face with devil horns in another message.
