Derek Hough sits out Dancing With The Stars

Professional dancer Derek Hough is sitting out the upcoming series of Dancing With The Stars to focus on Broadway.
The reigning champion, who won the previous season with Bindi Irwin, will be missing from the professional line-up when the show returns for its 22nd season on 21 March (16).
Derek, 30, will reportedly use his time off to work on more acting projects. He was recently announced as the star of a new Broadway adaptation of Singin’ in the Rain. He will take on the Don Lockwood role, which was originated by Gene Kelly in the 1952 musical comedy film, when he takes to the stage in 2017.
The dancer and choreographer, who was once romantically linked to X Factor Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, is the show’s most decorated professional having won the competition six times. He joined the show in 2007 and has only sat out a season once before in 2011.
His sister Julianne Hough will also be absent from the upcoming season – she will not be on the judging panel as she had “a lot of exciting stuff coming that I look forward to sharing.” Judge Len Goodman will return to the fold to replace her and rate the dances alongside veteran judges Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli.
