She’s Gotta Have It actress Dewanda Wise has joined the cast of superhero blockbuster Captain Marvel.
DeWanda, 33, who stars as Nola Darling, the lead in the new TV show based on Spike Lee’s 1986 movie, will join Brie Larson, Samuel L. Jackson, Ben Mendelsohn, and Jude Law in the new Marvel Studios film, according to Deadline.com.
Captain Marvel, which is directed by Mississippi Grind filmmakers Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck, will be DeWanda’s first feature. She has previously starred in critically acclaimed TV shows Underground and Shots Fired.
The film, which is due for release in March next year (19), is based on the Marvel Comics adventures of Carol Danvers, an Air Force pilot whose DNA is fused with that of an alien during an accident and develops superpowers.
