Disney confirmed Monday that it has agreed to buy Fox Family Worldwide from News Corp. and Saban Entertainment and turn FFW’s cable channel into ABC Family, where it will rerun many Disney- and ABC-produced shows. Speaking to TV journalists in Pasadena Monday, Disney President and COO Robert Iger remarked, “This will give us an opportunity to take the best of our new programs, air them first on ABC and give them a second airing within a fairly brief period of time on what we’re calling ABC Family.” The “brief period of time,” observers indicated, could be just a few hours for some news programming and up to one week for entertainment shows.
