16 & Pregnant Premiere

Juno and Bristol Palin, both pregnant at 16, both … role models? Well, it’s certainly glorified that way. But MTV’s new documentary, premiering tonight at 10PM, glorifies nothin’. It’s totally harsh and very, very real. Every week for the next six weeks, MTV will chronicle the life of a true-blue 16-year-old gone preggers. Tonight, we zoom in on Maci and Ryan from Chattanooga, Tenn. He’s a night shift-working mechanic; she’s a high-school cheerleader, softball-playin’ lover of dirt bikes. Maci met Ryan on the dirt bike track — and you know what time it is — the girl winds up pregnant. She discovers that she’s delivering a baby boy, whom she promptly names Bentley. She and Ryan, despite being convinced that a what-to-do epiphany would hit ’em when Bentley arrived, definitely admit that now they’re “not so sure.” What to do when you’re still a self-absorbed teenager confronted with life-stripping isolation and responsibilities, plus a mother that offers up her two cents later: Maybe this wasn’t such a good a idea, she says.
