SCI FI’s Knights of Bloodsteel, Part 2
(Monday, Apr. 20, 2009)
It’s no Lord of the Rings, but it’s still as fantastical as hobbit hair. The Sci Fi Channel offers a four-hour two-part movie (get the part-two climax tonight at 9PM ET/PT), depicting the fictitious continent of Mirabilis, where the barbarically clad humans, elves and goblins grapple for the only thing of value: bloodsteel. What’s bloodsteel? A magical metal, duh. And double-duh: The meanest guy in the whole fantasyland, a monster named Dragon Eye, has possession of every little remain. Naturally, the others hear word of another magical piece of the puzzle, a crucible with the ability to create copious amounts of bloodsteel; the eldest elf Tesselink (Christopher Lloyd) wants to prevent ol’ Dragon Eye from ever getting his paws on the magic crucible, so he’s organized a team of muscle including two humans, an elf and a goblin to destroy it. The title of Looker of the Elves belongs to Natassia Malthe, whom you’ll remember from BloodRayne II: Deliverance, and she wields two swords around like she’s in a movie with Chow Yun-Fat. To sate the escapist in you, Bloodsteel is an easy way to knock two hours off your Harry Potter anticipation countdown.
