DO IT TODAY: ‘Terminator Salvation’

Terminator Salvation
(Thursday, May 21, 2009)

John Connor knew it. He knew the Terminators would make a bitch out of our pretty little Earth come year 2018. Now that it now is 2018, and J.C. has transformed himself into man-with-a-sense-of-purpose Christian Bale (trading up from Nick Stahl and before him, Edward Furlong), we’d better feed our curiosity and go see this fourth Terminator installment — An-huld being back or bust. Bale along with death-row cohort Marcus Wright (the impressive Sam Worthington) are talkin’ back (or, um, shooting back) at the cyberkinetic machines orchestrating this devastating apocalypse; but while along this fighting brigade, Connor can’t help but worry about his alliance with Wright … because he’s kind of a good-cop-bad-cop hybrid. Is he trustworthy? Dunno. Is his creator, Dr. Susan Kogan (Helena Bonham Carter), trustworthy? Can’t say for sure. But, hey, the movie’s got guns (of dual variety, particularly Worthington’s), a hot girl (Moon Bloodgood, wow — our Fresh Face this week) and CGI where it counts (if you want spoilers, read our exclusive Q&A with director McG). Upon viewing, perhaps we’d commiserate with ol’ testy Bale — ’cause a glimpse into this post-apocalyptic mess would stir an F-word or two out of us, too.
