The E.N.D., The Black Eyed Peas
(Tuesday, June 9, 2009)
The end, it’s not. Rather, The Black Eyed Peas’ fifth album — their third with femme mascot Fergie — pulls from the quantum physics thought: “energy never dies.” The former positive hip-hoppers are now hip to remixes, dance-offs and please-don’t-stop-the-music club anthems. The album itself won’t be telling any sort of story with its beats, but it’s constant radio play this summer will be telling enough: pop sells. Especially if it’s good pop. And y’all obviously like it — ahem, “Don’t Phunk With My Heart,” “Hey Mama” and, uh, “MY HUMPS.” Leading man Will.i.am is proud to boast co-working credits with remix master MSTRKRFT, so expect all kinds of versions to sure-to-be hits like: “Rock That Body,” “Party All the Time” and “Outta My Head.” “I Gotta Feeling” is the one whose video was leaked, flaunting a Fergie flaunting her cleavage and ass in a bra and thong, respectively. These hopped-up songs will fill up party playlists forced to omit all Chris Brown hits.
