Doris Day has discovered she is two years older than she originally thought.

The singer/actress turns 95 on Monday (03Apr17), although she had long been under the impression she would be turning 93 – as she originally thought she was born in 1924.

Ahead of her birthday, the Associated Press obtained a copy of her birth certificate from Ohio’s Office of Vital Statistics and learned Doris Mary Kappelhoff, her real name, was born in 1922 to parents Alma and William Kappelhoff of Cincinnati, which would make her 95.

The Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be) singer said in a statement on Sunday (02Apr17), “I’ve always said that age is just a number and I have never paid much attention to birthdays, but it’s great to finally know how old I really am!”

Her spokesman Charley Cullen Walters also revealed that Doris had always joked with her 95-year-old friend Betty White about her age, but it now turns out there is only three months difference between them.

Calling her birthday “an even bigger exciting landmark than we thought”, he explained, “There has long been speculation and rumors about Doris‘ age and we get this question a lot, looks like we finally have the answer.

“The story I have heard the most is that at one point Doris was up for a role when quite young and her age may have been miswritten on the audition form. We don’t know if that’s correct, but if so it could’ve simply stuck for all these years.”

For her 95th birthday, she is asking her fans to support her Doris Day Animal Foundation, the nonprofit organization she launched in 1978 to support projects that care for animals. She is asking Twitter users to post a picture or video of their pet with the hashtag #DorisBirthdayWish and tag her foundation’s Twitter page. The best of the submissions will be made into a digital birthday card for her.
