Down the ‘The Wire’

The Wire airs Sunday at 10/9c on HBO

HBO’s charged cop-drama, The Wire, has an extraordinary amount of brains behind it. Set amongst the gritty environs of West Baltimore, the Peabody Award-winning show is not so much a straight-up depiction of cops targeting drug dealers as it is a study of street survival and the social inequality within a community that inherently leads to criminal behavior.

Tonight’s episode, entitled “That’s Got His Own,” is as complex and interwoven as ever. The ambitious Carcetti considers groveling before the Governor to achieve his goal of school prosperity, Detective Freamon also turns to a higher authority after getting recently reprimanded by Sergeant Landsman; and planning begins on another big sting.
