Drew Barrymore and estranged husband Will Kopelman decided to divorce after a long battle to make their marriage work.
The Charlie’s Angels star and Will announced their decision to split last week (beg28Mar16) after nearly four years of marriage.
Drew and Will, who have two daughters Olive, three, and 23-month-old Frankie, reportedly attempted to work through their difficulties for a considerable time before deciding to part ways.
Of their decision to divorce a source tells America’s People magazine the pair, “tried to work through things for some time,” adding, “This was not an overnight decision They both really wanted to make it work.”
According to the insider, the couple are still friends and still, “fundamentally agree on everything when it comes to their girls,” despite their marital difficulties.
In the first interview with Drew to be published since news of her marital split broke she shared with U.K. website Popsugar.com how she had taken life advice from a friend.
“I had a really hard time a couple of months ago and kind of knew life was heading in a new direction,” she said. “I called someone that I really trust, respect, and believe in, because he has always been the conductor of grace. I said, ‘What’s your advice?’ And he said, ‘You put one foot in front of the other.’ I hung up the phone and I thought, ‘That is why I call this person.'”
Drew has been married twice before she wed Will, with both her unions to bartender Jeremy Thomas in 1994 and comedian Tom Green in 2001 ending in divorce just months after the couples tied the knot.
Speaking to American magazine Us Weekly, another insider told how the actress believed her relationship with Will was one which would stand the test of time.
“She feels like a failure,” the source said. “She’s disappointed this didn’t work. They both expected to be together forever.”
