Eddie Redmayne performs magic trick during TV interview

Eddie Redmayne performed a magic trick during a TV interview on Wednesday night (07Nov18).

The British actor made an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon to promote his new fantasy movie Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, in which he plays wizard Newt Scamander.

But during the chat, Eddie confessed that he has long been a fan of magicians and has actually perfected one trick. For the illusion, he had Jimmy pick a card at random, and then after a series of steps, he asked the presenter to open a sealed envelope placed on the desk.

“Dude, you did it! Look at that right there,” smiled Jimmy, as he opened the envelope to discover the original card he had seen in the deck.

Eddie went on to explain that he had been working on his magic tricks since he was a child, and he was so into learning tricks that he even invited a magician to one of his birthday parties as a teenager.

“I was properly, embarrassingly into magic as a kid. You know how kids have magicians for their birthday, but normally until about the age of eight, nine, maybe pushing it 10, 11?” the 36-year-old shared. “Age 15, 18, no one came to the parties but I was still inviting magicians. Properly into it. I had a little brother who was about six years younger than me, so it was the perfect audience so I could do magic tricks on him.”

During the interview, Eddie also explained that he was taught some special moves from a wand expert on the set of the Fantastic Beasts movies, and while he was excited to bring a wand home with him, he soon realised it was too dangerous for his two-year-old daughter Iris to play with.

“It’s basically like giving a dagger to a child. She was just trying to skewer her eyes out,” he joked.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, also starring Katherine Waterston, Zoe Kravitz, Jude Law and Johnny Depp, is due to hit cinemas on 16 November.
