With many tourists canceling plans to visit New York following the attacks on the World Trade Center, live talk shows based in the city have been finding it difficult wrangling audiences, Fox News reported Monday. While there is often a long wait to get tickets for the most popular shows, it said, virtually anyone who wants to see one of them is getting in.
The channel counted just 15 people waiting outside NBC studios for tickets to Late Night with Conan O’Brien when they began being distributed at 9:00 a.m. Monday. Michael Gelman, producer of Live with Regis and Kelly, told the news channel: “[The audiences] have been mirroring the feelings of the entire nation. Anger, they’re in mourning. But they’ve been much more upbeat than I ever really thought. I always equate a smaller house with a quiet audience, but people want to be entertained. People want to laugh.”
