“Episode II” to attack on May 16

Twentieth Century Fox announced Tuesday that it plans to release Star
Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones
in North America on Thursday,
May 16, 2002. It also said that the film will also open on the same day
(or on Friday, the 17th) in 42 other countries.

“We’re trying to do a worldwide simultaneous release,” Fox spokesman
Bruce Snyder told today’s New York Post. “The world
is shrinking, and we wanted to take advantage of that.”

A trailer for
Episode II is scheduled to be shown at theaters screening
Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone beginning Friday. However,
Lucasfilm has announced that people who buy the Phantom Menace
DVD can see additional preview scenes from the movie by inserting
the DVD into their computer’s DVD-ROM drive and connecting through it to
the Internet.
