Hearts in Atlantis
The Players: Anthony Hopkins, Anton Yelchin, Hope Davis, David Morse; directed by Scott Hicks.
The Skinny: Adapted from a story by Stephen King, Hearts in Atlantis is the story of Bobby Garfield (Yelchin), a fatherless 11-year-old who lives with his mother (Davis) in a Harwich, Conn., apartment. When a mysterious man named Ted Brautigan (Hopkins) moves into the building, the lonely boy makes a new friend who brings magic–and mystery–to the last summer of his childhood.
The Bottom Line: King)’s non-horror flicks, like The Green Mile, The Shawshank Redemption and Stand By Me, have always found an audience (and sometimes an Academy Award or two besides). While Hearts weaves some supernatural elements into the story line, it’s less Shining than Shawshank and buzz is already touting Hopkins for an Oscar nom.
Opens: Sept. 28
