Former Soda Stereo drummer becomes U.N. Goodwill Ambassador

Latin rocker Charly Alberti has landed a new role as a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Development Program in his native Argentina.
The former Soda Stereo drummer will front the organisation’s Climate Action Campaign, in an effort to raise awareness about global warming and the need for sustainable development.
Alberti has long been an environmental campaigner through his own non-profit, the R21 Foundation, and he believes his efforts, as well as those of his fellow activists, are finally producing results.
“I think that people are becoming aware,” Alberti tells Billboard.com. “And that has a multiplying effect, because those who ‘get it’ become advocates. That is what we need, for everyone to be an advocate (for the environment), because we know that the problem stems from the everyday actions of each one of us.”
The new initiative ties in with United Nations officials’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals agenda, featuring a list of things they hope to achieve by 2030. Among the global tasks are eliminating poverty and hunger, providing clean water and sanitation, and achieving gender equality.
