Christopher Skase, an Australian wheeler-dealer who in 1989 completed a $1.5-billion transaction to buy MGM but, as his financial empire collapsed, couldn’t come up with the money to pay for it, died Sunday in Spain, where he had lived as a fugitive for years. The Australian Associated Press reported Wednesday that Skase’s death will not affect a feature film about him titled Let’s Get Skase, which is due to be released later this year. “The movie is actually set in 1995, so the death of Christopher Skase doesn’t really have any direct impact on the events that are depicted in the film,” Joel Pearlman, managing director of Roadshow Film Distributors, told the AAP. The comedy feature describes an attempt by the creditors of Qintex, Skase’s bankrupt company, to kidnap Skase in Majorca and return him to Australia.
