Geena Davis teams with A-list jeweller David Yurman on gender bias film

Actress and advocate Geena Davis has teamed with jeweler David Yurman on a documentary examining gender bias in Hollywood.

Currently titled Gender In Hollywood, a host of A-list names have shared their own stories for the feature, including Shonda Rhimes, Jessica Chastain, Zoe Saldana, Judd Apatow, Yara Shahidi, Paul Feig, Chloe Grace Moretz, Gillian Anderson, Sharon Stone, Alan Alda and Lena Dunham.

“Unconscious gender bias directly correlates to the way women are represented on screen,” Geena said in a statement. “When we look at how this documentary will add to the discussion about gender inequality, we hope one of the key takeaways is that a solution is only possible if both women and men in this industry work together to create change.”

For the film, more than 100 interviews were conducted, with production beginning in 2016, a year before Hollywood became engulfed in the current sexual misconduct scandal triggered by accusations made against producer Harvey Weinstein.

As well as personal testimonies, cutting-edge data from The Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media is used to support the narrative of the film.

David started the brand, which is loved by the likes of Taylor Swift, Brad Pitt and Kate Moss, with his wife Sybil in 1980, with females making up 75 per cent of the executive committee and nearly 70 per cent of the staff.

“We are a company of women, led by women and co-founded by a woman,” Sybil said. “Since 1980 we have strived to elevate and celebrate women throughout all levels of the company.”

David and Sybil’s filmmaker daughter-in-law Ku-Ling Yurman is acting as executive producer.
