George Shelley gets the X from Union J

British pop star George Shelley is no longer united with Union J
The singer shot to fame in 2012 when he competed on British reality TV show The X Factor and became part of boyband Union J, but now their time together as a foursome has come to an end.
George’s departure isn’t without drama – remaining members Josh Cuthbert, JJ Hamblett, and Jaymi Hamsley tell the U.K.’s The Sun that George refused to make a commitment to the group after returning from jungle-based reality show I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! in December (15).
“He did the jungle, he came off it and his head space was different to ours,” Josh tells the publication. “Using a sporting analogy, he wanted to turn up to the big matches but not turn up to training.”
Jaymi adds, “It’s heartbreaking. I spoke to him the other day and I said I’m heartbroken over this. He wasn’t putting his full effort in. One member is not bigger than the band.”
However, a spokesperson for George insists they aren’t telling the whole truth, saying, “It was a mutual decision for George to leave Union J so he could focus on his broadcasting and acting career. The fact of the matter is that the other members of Union J are simply jealous he has achieved the start of an exciting new career and they have not.
“George had agreed to be totally magnanimous towards them, but unfortunately this has not been reciprocated.”
Union J are now hoping to replace George with a new member within the next few weeks.
George’s departure comes a month after he opened up about his sexuality in a candid online video, declaring he wanted to “start 2016 with a clean slate”.
In the video, the 22 year old said, “I’ve been on a personal journey and I want you to be part of that journey from now on. I want to start 2016 with a clean slate. I went into the jungle and it gave me a lot of time to reflect on what’s important to me and what is important to me is I can be myself.”
