Ginger Spice Gets Tearful as She Remembers Late Friend George Michael

Geri Horner struggled to hold back the tears as she remembered late friend George Michael on Thursday (09Mar17).

The Praying for Time singer died aged 53 on Christmas Day (25Dec16) – less than a month before Geri gave birth to baby Montague George Hector Horner, her second child, and first with husband Christian Horner.

During an interview on British TV show This Morning, Geri failed to keep a hold on her emotions as she spoke about her close pal.

“I absolutely loved him… I’m going to cry. I’m all hormonal as well,” she said. “But when I left the Spice Girls he took me under his wing. He was such a lovely person, so it was very shocking. And suddenly I have a baby, it was just like the circle of life… you just don’t expect it. He was such a good man.”

Geri hit headlines numerous times during her time with the Spice Girls and her solo career afterwards. But she credited Fast Love star George for helping her stay grounded even the craziest times.

“You know how real friends tell you how it is… they keep your feet on the ground. He was very mentoring, I would play my music and he’d tell me when I was rubbish and when I was good, but also he loved this programme! That’s what I really loved about him. He was quite normal. And so generous!

He bought me a car, he helped me with first daughter, I lived with him, so I was gutted… it’s not until someone goes you suddenly go ‘Oh my God’… It’s very sad when someone we all love dies.”

Geri opted to remember George by using his name as a middle name for her son, who she affectionately calls Monty. However, she told This Morning hosts Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby that it was actually her mother who suggested the tribute.

“That was my mother’s idea because she was very close to George and he loved his mother, loved his family and she said why don’t you put George? And I thought, ‘Why not?’…” Geri smiled.
