Gillian Anderson attends British awards show on crutches

Gillian Anderson accessoried her red carpet look with a pair of crutches at the BAFTA TV Awards on Sunday (14May17) after fracturing her foot on holiday.
The Fall star looked glamorous in a white floral print gown, but her crutches added an unexpected touch to her outfit. The 48-year-actress explained in an interview with The New Zealand Herald the reason for her practical accessory.
“So, I fractured my foot jumping into a swimming pool that was too shallow in Costa Rica,” she told the publication. “It could have been a lot worse.”
And in a recent photo of herself posted on Instagram, she is seen sitting in a car wearing an orthopaedic boot, which she joked was her “Stormtrooper look”.
Gillian is currently starring in the Starz fantasy sci-fi TV series, American Gods, in which she plays the incarnation of Media, and she gets to morph into iconic figures such as Lucille Ball, Judy Garland, Marilyn Monroe, and even David Bowie.
“To get to play all those different roles was a gift. I probably had the most fun playing Marilyn, because she’s so bright and lighthearted,” she smiled. “And I am not. So it was fun to jump into that persona.”
And while she admits to growing to appreciate the importance of the media now that she’s older, she is very wary of social media and the influence of technology on her own children.
“I don’t tweet… I just don’t think anybody gives a f**k about what I have to say, to be honest. Nor should they,” she said.
Gillian also admitted to being nervous for her children and “how obsessed in their minds they get” with video games.
“They don’t have a lot of game time, but it takes over conversations with their friends and they don’t seem to be able to talk about other things,” she added.
