Gladys Knight’s restaurant fails health inspection

Soul icon Gladys Knight’s restaurant in Atlanta, Georgia has failed its most recent health inspection.
The singer’s son, Shanga, runs a chain of eateries, named Gladys Knight & Ron Winans’ Chicken & Waffles, across the city, but their Peachtree Street venue has since hit headlines for all the wrong reasons.
Fulton County Health inspectors discovered 15 violations at the restaurant, giving it a score of just 56 out of 100.
Among the points of concern were a lack of adequate “hand washing facilities supplied and accessible” at the venue, while food handlers also failed to wash their hands properly during shifts. Inspectors also noted “heavy debris” collected on ceilings and on vents, while one cooler was missing a door.
Knight and her staff, who have yet to comment on the reports, have been given 10 days to fix the issues before the next health inspection.
The news comes as somewhat of a surprise as the restaurant previously scored 94 out of 100 last April (15), according to local news station WSBTV.
Shanga is Knight’s only child with her third ex-husband, producer and Blackground Records founder Barry Hankerson – the uncle of late singer Aaliyah. She is also a mum to a daughter named Kenya, from her first marriage to James Newman. The childhood sweethearts also shared a son, James ‘Jimmy’ Newman, Jr., who died in 1999.
