Glenn Close mistaken for Cloris Leachman in awkward fan run-in

Glenn Close was left stunned when she was recently mistaken for Cloris Leachman by a fan.
The actress is currently promoting drama The Wife, in which she plays a woman who questions her life choices as she travels to Stockholm, Sweden with her husband, where he is slated to receive the Nobel Prize for Literature.
However, following the premiere of the film in Los Angeles last month (Jul18), Glenn received a bit of a blow to her self-confidence when a fan wrongly thought she was The Last Picture Show star Cloris, who is now aged 92.
“I was in the elevator, and this woman, she had dark glasses on, she said: ‘Cloris Leachman!'” recalled Glenn during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on Monday night (06Aug18). “I said, ‘No, I’m Glenn Close.’ She said, ‘No, you’re not.’ I said, ‘Yes, I am.’ And then she said, ‘I meant that!’ I ran up to my room – and Cloris Leachman is a wonderful actress – but I found out that she was born in 1926 and she’s 92 years old. I just have to say, I hope I’m still acting like she is when I’m 92 years old.”
Glenn went on to speak about awards buzz surrounding The Wife and described the film as a “love story” involving “two very complex people”. The Damages star also explained that she was thrilled to work with her daughter Annie Starke on the project, with the 30-year-old portraying a younger version of Glenn’s character in the movie.
“Yes, absolutely. I’m cool with it,” the 71-year-old smiled. “I’m actually not surprised (that Annie is acting now) because when kids would pretend, she was really into it from a very early age.”
The Wife, also featuring Christian Slater and Max Irons, hits cinemas from 12 August.
