‘Godfather of Gore’ Hershell Lewis dead at 87

Filmmaker Hershell Gordon Lewis has died, aged 87.
He died in his sleep early on Monday (26Sep16).
Dubbed the “godfather of gore” Lewis made cult 1960s “splatter” films like Blood Feast, Two Thousand Maniacs, and A Taste of Blood.
His movies inspired a host of today’s directors, including Robert Rodriguez, Quentin Tarantino and James Gunn.
Lewis’ films were popular at grindhouse cinemas and drive-ins.
One of his biggest fans, filmmaker John Waters, had a cameo role in his 2002 comeback movie Blood Feast 2: All U Can Eat.
Lewis also produced and directed TV commercials and wrote several books on marketing and copywriting.
