Goldie Hawn still cringes at her very first meeting with comedienne Amy Schumer because the veteran actress had no idea who she was.
The two stars have become inseparable after teaming up to play mother and daughter in new movie Snatched, but Amy loves to retell the story of how she cornered Goldie and shared the idea for her first film role in 15 years after discovering they were on the same flight.
Amy shared the funny incident during a joint appearance on Today on Monday (01May17), explaining, “I left (Goldie) alone during the flight. We’d never met. I waited till we got off the plane and then I went up and I harassed her. And I was just like, ‘I really want you to play my mum in this movie.’ And she was just like, ‘OK, honey.'”
Goldie insists she was flattered by Amy’s proposal, but she was unaware of the star’s comedy success at the time, and she is still kicking herself for brushing her off.
“I thought you were the cutest thing…,” the 71-year-old said. “Amy came up and she was just, you know, sweet… and adorable and all of it, and I hadn’t seen the show (her hit TV series Inside Amy Schumer).
“I feel bad every time I hear the story.”
The pair has since grown extremely close, but Amy reveals Goldie wasn’t the only star she failed to win over on their initial meeting – the Private Benjamin actress’ longtime partner, Kurt Russell, also had trouble remembering when they first crossed paths.
During a recent interview on Britain’s The Graham Norton Show, Amy recalled, “I go over to their house the other night for dinner, and Kurt answered the door and he was so sweet, and he just gave me the warmest hello. He was like, ‘It is so great to finally meet you. I love you, Goldie loves you, I love you.’ He was so warm, and I go, ‘Thank you, Kurt. We sat next to each other at the Golden Globes!'”
