C. Michael Greene has resigned as president of the Grammy Music Awards, it was reported today.
Greene, 52, who helped transform the Grammys into a global television event, resigned during an emergency board meeting at the Beverly Hilton Hotel to discuss a sexual harassment probe commissioned by the Grammy organization, The Los Angeles Times reported.
Exactly what prompted the sudden resignation of Greene–who still has three years left on his contract–is unclear, according to The Times.
Sources told the newspaper that Greene will leave the organization with as much as $8 million in severance pay.
In February, Grammy trustees paid a woman who was once a Grammy executive $650,000 to settle allegations of sexual abuse against Greene, The Times reported.
Greene reportedly said he had never sexually harassed anyone at the music academy, but said he chose not to fight the payout because he did not want to disrupt the organization.
