Guy Ritchie in talks to direct live-action Aladdin movie

Filmmaker Guy Ritchie is reportedly in talks to direct Disney’s live action Aladdin film.
If Madonna’s ex-husband signs on to direct the film, it will reunite him with producer Dan Lin, who worked on the Sherlock Holmes movies. Jonathan Eirich has signed on as executive producer and John August has written the script for the remake.
The film will reportedly feature many of the musical elements from the 1992 animated movie and moviemakers are still working on how to approach the Genie character in the film. The animated wish granter in the Disney film was voiced by the late Robin Williams.
The original movie was the highest grossing film of 1992 with $504.1 million (GBP408.1 million) in earnings worldwide. It picked up two Academy Awards for Best Score and Best Song (A Whole New World).
The film was also adapted into a Broadway show in 2014.
The new movie is the latest project in a long line of Disney live action adaptations with studio bosses working on a Beauty and the Beast film, which stars Emma Watson, Luke Evans, Dan Stevens, and Ian McKellen.
Moviemakers are also launching a global casting search to find an actress to play Mulan in a new film. The studio bosses have confirmed they are making a live-action retelling of the beloved animated movie, which tells the story of Chinese war heroine Hua Mulan, who disguises herself as a man in order to take her father’s place in the army and go to war.
Studio bosses are hoping to release the project in November, 2018.
Meanwhile, filmmaker Jon Favreau is also directing a new version of The Lion King, as well as a sequel to this year’s (16) The Jungle Book.
