“Harry” not pirated on the Net

The Motion Picture Association of America has determined that there are no files of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone floating around the Internet.

A London paper had reported over the weekend that the movie had been hacked and was available on peer-to-peer file-sharing sites. But so far, no sign of the Warner Bros. Picture has been found on the Internet.

According to Variety, the film title did pop up on various file swapping sites but the file turned out to nothing close to the actual move. In some cases, the content turned out to be porn.

Meanwhile, paperback editions of JK Rowling’s Harry Potter books have become the top five best-selling books in Britain. According to the BookTrack Hot 100, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone is back on top, almost five years after it was first published.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets came in second, followed by Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire and Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. A special edition of the first book based on the picture is in fourth spot.

The London premiere of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone on Sunday helped catapult the book to the number one spot, selling 53,841 copies last week alone.

The film, titled Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone in the United States, opens on November 16.
