The Les Misérables star has long insisted his forthcoming outing as Wolverine in Logan will be his final film as the X-Men character, but Ryan refused to listen and has continued to campaign for a big screen reunion between the clawed superhero and his masked Deadpool, after appearing together in 2009’s critical flop X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
Hugh appeared to consider the project last year (16), when he admitted he liked the idea, telling Variety.com, “I’m hesitating, because I could totally see how that’s the perfect fit.”
However, the 48-year-old has since decided he wants no part of the huge Deadpool franchise, insisting Ryan has no “need” for his involvement.
In a recent question and answer session with fans on Facebook, he made it clear the time had passed for such an onscreen match up.
Asked outright if he would reunite with Ryan onscreen, he replied, “No, and Ryan is currently sleeping outside my house!”
“Look, if that movie had appeared 10 years ago, probably a different story, but I knew two and a half years ago that this (Logan) was the last one,” he added. “The first call I made was to (Logan director James Mangold). I said, ‘Jim, I got one more shot at this,’ and as soon as Jim came up with the idea and we worked on it, I was never more excited. But, it feels like the right time (to retire as Wolverine). Deadpool, go for it man, do your thing. You don’t need me.”
