Idina Menzel returning to New York stage

Actress and singer Idina Menzel is returning to the New York stage for the world premiere of new play Skintight.
The Tony Award winner, who lit up Broadway with her roles in Wicked and Rent, will take on the role of Jodi Isaac – a woman trying to come to terms with the news her husband has left her for a younger woman, and her father and son are gay – in the off-Broadway production, which begins in May, 2018, with an official opening a month later.
The show will be performed at the Laura Pels Theatre in the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre.
Idina made her Broadway debut in Rent back in 1995, and played Maureen Johnson in the original cast of the musical. She returned to the Great White Way as Amneris in Aida and enjoyed off-Broadway success in The Wild Party and The Vagina Monologues.
But she’s perhaps most famous for her portrayal of Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West, in Wicked, which opened to critical acclaim in 2003. Menzel received the 2004 Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical for the magical role.
She last appeared on the New York stage in If/Then in 2014.
