Iggy Pop pays tribute to Bowie at Tibet House gig

Iggy Pop paid tribute to his longtime friend and collaborator David Bowie at the Tibet House Benefit Concert in New York on Monday (23Feb16).
Backed by the Patti Smith Group, the punk icon performed Bowie’s Jean Genie and Tonight – the song he co-wrote with the Thin White Duke for his Lust For Life album – at Carnegie Hall.
Iggy joined forces with soul singer Sharon Jones for the latter track, which Bowie also recorded with Tina Turner.
The former Stooges frontman also thrilled fans with a spoken word performance of a poem titled I Talked to a Smart Guy, which featured musical backing from composer Philip Glass, the co-founder of the Tibet House charity.
The punk star’s poem and a second piece were written for the show.
This year’s (16) Tibet House Benefit Concert also featured sets from Tibetan singer Dechen Shak-Dagsay, Gogol Bordello and FKA Twigs, while Uma Thurman, the daughter of Tibet House co-founder Robert Thurman, hit the stage with her dad and Gogol Bordello frontman Eugene Hutz to auction off a guitar.
