Jewelry: The Stars Talk Stones at InStyle’s Diamond Showcase

[IMG:L]When it comes to awards season, diamonds remain a Hollywood girl’s best friend.

Even with the Golden Globes scuttled by the writers’ strike, there are still plenty of red carpets left for the stars to stroll down over the next few months, so some of the most dazzling ladies in show biz showed up at InStyle Magazine and the Diamond Information Center’s 7th Annual Diamond Fashion Show Preview at the swanky Beverly Hills Hotel looking to add some sparkle to their award show style.

Globe nominees showed off some of the baubles they might have worn to Sunday’s ceremony: Debra Messing, nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Mini-Series or a Motion Picture Made for Television for Starter Wife, was already blinged out with a platinum and diamond right hand ring by Neil Lane, while Pushing Daisies star Anna Friel, nominated for Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series – Musical or Comedy, donned a pair of platinum and diamond stud earrings by Kwiat.

Sharon Stone, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Patricia Arquette, and Kristen Bell were among the other glamour gals who showed up to check out gems, and as the actresses window shopped some of the most expensive adornments on the planet, Hollywood.com quizzed some of the red carpet regulars them on their personal taste in jewelry and their memories of the most jaw-dropping jewels they’ve borrowed for Hollywood’s biggest nights.

What Rocks Get Her Rocks Off:
“I’m not a big jewelry person. But the ones I’m wearing today are Judith Ripka and I’m really into them now because they’re casual, but elegant. I can wear them with jeans and it makes it look really pretty.”
Her Biggest Bling Ever: “I remember the Golden Globes four years ago when I was nominated for The Cooler I had this necklace made by Louis Verdad that was piles and piles of white pearls and diamonds. I felt fabulous. I felt beautiful.”

What Rocks Get Her Rocks Off:
“Well, anything with diamonds in it, really. Like these are my diamonds I’m wearing today. I’m not sure what style you call that…sort of old school. I like 1930’s style. Vintage diamonds are always a good thing. I guess that my taste goes more towards classic vintage pieces. Ropes of diamonds are not bad either. I have a strand of black diamonds that I love.”
Her Biggest Bling Ever: “I’ve had the opportunity to wear some big chunky diamond rings, some Neil Lane and some H. Stern and Loraine Schwartz. One of my favorite pair of earrings were hers. They were these huge circles with intricate floral pattern designs just all done in diamonds. They were the most beautiful earrings that I’ve ever worn. I think about those more than any other piece that I’ve ever worn to an awards show. I want those earrings and I think that they’re probably $350,000 or something like that.”

What Rocks Get Her Rocks Off:
“I’m usually pretty understated with jewelry. I’ve never been an over the top, blingy sort of girl, but I like looking at it!”
Her Biggest Bling Ever: “I probably don’t even know how expensive most things have been that I’ve worn. I sort of don’t want to know. It’s a little overwhelming. I remember the first time that I borrowed $40,000 earrings and I was panicked. I was sweating the whole time and I got a little more used to it after the first couple of times, but it’s stressful. When I was in Paris for Fashion Week they would send me jewelry every day. There were times that I would have one set of jewelry on and one set of jewelry in my purse and I was literally like ‘Don’t touch my purse!'”

What Rocks Get Her Rocks Off:
“I think that every girl needs to have some diamonds in their collection. I have some diamonds in some little tiny pendants that you can wear day or night. So it’s always good to have those little fancy things. I also just have the dangles and casual stuff that you can throw on with anything during the day. I love accessories.”
Her Biggest Bling Ever: “I’ve worn some Kwiat diamonds that were really, really expensive, and also some from 24 Karats. They’ve both given me some great stuff to the point where you’re scared. Actually, one time I had a diamond bracelet on and it got stuck and we couldn’t get it off of me, and I had to wear it the whole weekend. So the owner of the store had to come back and pry it off of me and I was just really nervous about that.”

What Rocks Get Her Rocks Off:
“I live in Costa Rica and sometimes I’m here working and then playing Mrs. Ari, so I have the three different flavors. I have the very groovy kind of nature girl stuff. I have the “Perry in L.A.” stuff. I love kind of interesting arty pieces with nice stones. For Mrs. Ari, I’m like full-on Neil Lane – big, big, fabulous, very expensive pieces.”
Her Biggest Bling Ever: “I wore Van Cleef & Arpels to the Emmys last year and I believe that the bracelet was more than my house. I was nervous, but it fit me really well. I have little wrists and it was a vintage piece that they pulled out of a museum and I guess that back in the old days people had little tiny wrists and so at least I knew that it wasn’t going to fall off my hand.”

[IMG:L]Lisa Rinna (TV Guide’s red carpet host)
Her Biggest Bling Ever:
“When I was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Harry Winston loaned me jewelry that was worth $1.5 million and we had to have a bodyguard go with us all night long and it was so fun. We were just talking about it the other day. It was just fun. No mishaps because the thing is that it didn’t look like $1.5 million worth of jewelry. It was very light looking and little, but it was so fabulous and to have him come around with us was really fun.”
