Rent Gets Big-Screen Treatment

Spike Lee was previously attached to direct this movie based on the 1996 Pulitzer Prize drama winner and 1996 Tony award for Best Musical. In it, a group of young East Villagers in New York City cope with such harsh urban realities as AIDS, homelessness and paying the rent. Sadly, Rent creator Jonathan Larson won’t get to see the film version; he died at age 35 of an aortic aneurysm shortly after viewing the show’s final run-through.
