Jay Z developing Richard Pryor film with Lee Daniels

Rapper Jay Z has teamed up with Empire creator Lee Daniels to develop a new film about comedian Richard Pryor’s life and career.
Jay Z will produce the film, which Daniels will direct.
It’s the first project to be announced after Jay Z signed a two-year film and TV deal with The Weinstein Company last week (ends30Sep16).
“I’m excited to tell stories from real-life prophets, whom through their struggles have changed the world for the better, and others whose stories are filled with fantasy and delight,” Jay Z said in a press release.
Jay Z is also currently acting as an executive producer on TIME: The Kalief Browder Story, a TV docu-series about a young black man who committed suicide after serving three years at the notorious Riker’s Island prison in New York, even though he was never convicted of allegedly stealing a backpack.
The charges against him were dropped without him ever going to trial.
Time: The Kalief Browder Story, which will premiere in January (17), will feature first-person accounts, archival footage, re-creations, and interviews, according to Billboard.com.
“Kalief Browder is a modern-day prophet; his story a failure of the judicial process,” Jay Z says. “A young man, and I emphasise young man, who lost his life because of a broken system. His tragedy has brought atrocities to light and now we must confront the issues and events that occurred so other young men can have a chance at justice.”
