Jimi Hendrix guitar pulled from auction

A Jimi Hendrix guitar has been pulled from auction over fears it’s not the one the rock legend played at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967.
The Fender Stratocaster was described as the instrument the guitar great didn’t set alight during his famously fiery performance, but bosses at Dallas, Texas-based Heritage Auctions have pulled the item over concerns it may not even have been onstage with Jimi.
It was initially thought he had the axe as a replacement, and bidding was expected to start at $500,000 (£388,000) when it went under the hammer on 17 June (17).
Experts believed the guitar didn’t just sit in the wings during Hendrix’s set – he used it to play classics Hey Joe and The Wind Cries Mary during the show before trading it for the one he destroyed onstage.
