Joanna Lumley thrilled with new BAFTA prize

Absolutely Fabulous star Joanna Lumley is so proud of her BAFTA Fellowship award she’s going to wear it as a hat for a month.
The 71-year-old actress was handed her latest accolade at the Bafta TV Awards in London on Sunday (14May17) and confessed she never would have dreamed of the top acting honour.
“It’s absolutely fantastic,” she said. “I ripped the envelope open with my teeth. I’m going to have it (award) made into a hat and wear it for a month and then it will be somewhere central in my house.”
Previous recipients of the prize include Dawn French, Julie Walters, and Lumley’s Absolutely Fabulous co-star Jennifer Saunders.
Other big BAFTA TV Awards winners included hit drama Happy Valley, which beat out favourite The Crown to win Best Drama Series, while the show’s star, Sarah Lancashire, grabbed the Leading Actress prize from The Crown’s Claire Foy. And Tom Hollander was the unexpected winner of the Supporting Actor trophy for his work on The Night Manager.
There were also two awards for acclaimed nature series Planet Earth II, and the International prize went to The People Vs OJ Simpson: American Crime Story, which beat out Stranger Things, The Night Of and Transparent for the top award.
