John Legend performs at opening of theatre named after him

John Legend performed at the opening of a theatre named in his honour on Sunday (10Oct16).
The 37-year-old actor belted out a selection of his hits including All of Me and new track Love Me Now for an audience of around 1,000 people inside the John Legend Theatre at the Springfield Center of Innovation: The Dome in Springfield, Ohio.
The Oscar and Grammy Award winner has a strong connection with his hometown, and graduated at the age of just 16 from Springfield North High School.
Speaking to the crowd, John said: “I have so many fond memories of growing up here. I have so many fond memories of what the arts and creativity meant to me.”
The father-of-one added that he particularly remembered singing the tracks You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown and Big River when he was in ninth grade alongside the Springfield Arts Council, adding: “There’s nothing like having to put the show together and perform on stage for an audience.”
John donated $500,000 (£389,000) towards the $2.5 million (£1.95 million) refurbishment of the theatre.
The Ordinary People singer has long been a dedicated philanthropist, with a particular focus on educational, environmental and anti-poverty programs.
