John Wayne’s son selling off movie icon’s treasures at auction

Ethan Wayne, who heads up John Wayne Enterprises in California, is planning the first single-owner auction from Wayne’s personal collection, which will take place in Los Angeles next month (Oct11).

Among the highlights going under the hammer are the actor’s Golden Globe for the original True Grit, one of his eye patches from the movie, plus numerous hats, costumes and scripts.

The items will be exhibited for fans in Dallas, Texas, New York and Los Angeles before the auction itself at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel on 3 to 6 October (11).

Ethan Wayne, an actor and stuntman, admits it was tough selecting which items to auction off.

He tells the Los Angeles Times, “No matter what you do, someone is going to be looking over your shoulder saying that it’s great that you are allowing it to go and another person is saying that it’s horrible, how can you do that? Yes, the Golden Globe is going but the Congressional Medal of Honor and the Oscar are not going. We are keeping some scripts and letting some go.”
