Kung Fu Panda 3 becomes China’s biggest animated film

Kung Fu Panda 3 has kicked its way into the history books as China’s highest-grossing animated film ever.
The third film in the beloved film franchise, featuring the voices of Jack Black, Angelina Jolie and Kate Hudson, has raked in $149 million (£107.5 million) in the country after nearly a month on release.
Kung Fu Panda 3 edged out the box office’s reigning film, Monkey King: Hero Is Back, which falls to second place with $146.2 million (£105.5 million).
The family movie set a record a week before it even hit cinemas, after selling $6.4 million (£4 million) worth of tickets in just three hours. In China, two versions of the film were released, an English-language take as well as a Mandarin version, featuring the voice of Jackie Chan.
Over the years, the Kung Fu Panda franchise has proven to be a huge success in China, with the first two instalments grossing a total of $118 million (£73.8 million) at the nation’s box office.
