Lana Del Rey Channels Old Hollywood with Halo Headpiece at Grammy Awards

Lana Del Rey channelled Old Hollywood at the Grammy Awards on Sunday night (28Jan18).

The 32-year-old singer, who was nominated in the Best Pop Vocal Album category for her record Lust for Life, stepped out in a stunning off-white dress with silver star embellishments from Gucci.

Lana accessorized her look with silver platform shoes, a long sparkly necklace, and a white silk rose on her wrist in support of the Time’s Up movement – but it was her halo-like headpiece that really grabbed fashionistas’ attention.

With her dark hair parted down the middle, the twinkling headpiece was placed on the back of her head, with many social media users pointing out at the look was very similar to a costume and headpiece worn by actress and World War II-era inventor Hedy Lamarr in the 1941 movie Ziegfeld Girl.

Lana wasn’t the only celebrity to make a serious sartorial statement on the night though; Beyonce made a powerful tribute to the Black Panther Party with her look.

The singer was joined by her rapper husband JAY-Z and their six-year-old daughter Blue Ivy in the front row of the awards ceremony, and looked glamorous in a black high neck dress with a large black hat from Nicolas Jebran. She matched her look with Lorraine Schwartz jewelry, a Judith Leiber purse, Jimmy Choo shoes, and sunglasses from Alain Mikli.

Beyonce paired her outfit with a slick of bold, purple lipstick and her make-up artist, L’Oreal Paris’ Sir John, revealed that the star made all the decisions when it came to styling, and decided to take inspiration from the revolutionary organization which was founded in the U.S. in 1966.

“It started with Super Bowl (in January 16), and here we are,” he told People, referring to Beyonce’s politically-charged halfime show which made explicit reference to the Black Lives Matter movement.

“The turtleneck part of the dress tonight – it’s sculptural silhouette. It was a really strong, powerful moment. This is something that is representative of love and solidarity for her people.”
