Latin singer Belinda under scutiny for helicopter trip during papal visit

Latin pop star Belinda is at the centre of controversy in Mexico after she was given a ride in a helicopter to a recent meeting with Pope Francis.
The 26-year-old singer was on her way to perform for the Pontiff at a gathering in Michoacan, Mexico last week (ends19Feb16), but her car became stuck in traffic.
Belinda made a few calls and managed to secure the services of a helicopter pilot, who was transporting a group of other high-profile guests to the event.
However, her special treatment has angered local state politicians, who are demanding answers from Governor Silvano Aureoles. He reportedly approved Belinda’s chopper ride, which many are concerned was paid for by taxpayers.
The Governor has yet to respond to the controversy, but Belinda attempted to distance herself from the drama on Tuesday night (23Feb16) by claiming she was offered the ride by officials, who had organised the Pope’s visit to the state, to ensure her safety and security in getting to the venue on time.
Belinda, who posted the lengthy note on Twitter.com, went on to insist the helicopter ride “lasted no more than 3 minutes”.
