Lebanese officials ban Wonder Woman

Screenings of Wonder Woman have officially been banned in Lebanon.
The movie was pulled from screens in the country hours before it was set to premiere because leading lady Gal Gadot is Israeli. Leaders of the two nations, who have long been at odds, are officially at war and on Wednesday (31May17) members of the Ministry of Economy decided the film would not play in the country.
“#WonderWoman has been banned in #Lebanon,” a message on a Twitter account linked to Beirut’s top theatre Grand Cinema reads.
Activists at the Campaign to Boycott Supporters of Israel-Lebanon, who were protesting the planned screenings, applauded the decision.
Gadot, who served in the Israeli Army, has yet to comment on the ban, but many of her other films including Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and Fast & Furious 6 have played in theatres in the country.
Wonder Woman, also starring Chris Pine, hits U.S. cinemas on Friday (02Jun17).
