“Lord” rings them in Toronto

An exhibit of props, costumes and sets from the upcoming Lord of the
Rings
has broken attendance records at Casa Loma, a tourist
destination in Toronto that opened in 1937. Alliance Atlantis, which
distributes the film in Canada, said that the previous record of 3,300
was broken on each day of the weekend for the exhibit, “A Journey to
Middle Earth” and that hundreds of persons had to be turned away.

The
exhibit is due to close on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the government of New
Zealand said Tuesday that it intends to spend $1.9 million over the next
two years to attract tourists, noting in a statement that the Rings
films, which were filmed in New Zealand, “present a unique
opportunity to showcase our country to the world.”
