Luis Miguel opens up about tinnitus battle

Mexican superstar Luis Miguel has opened up about his battle with hearing condition tinnitus, revealing his health is “a complicated situation”.
The singer’s condition was made public in court papers relating to his ongoing legal fight with former tour agent William Brockhaus, who is suing Miguel for $2.1 million (£1.3 million) amid allegations of breach of contract.
Recent reports suggest Miguel was handed a subpoena to face the claims in court, but he skipped the hearing as he is seeking treatment for the permanent ringing in his ears.
Miguel has now confirmed the news of his illness, admitting it has caused him multiple setbacks in his career in recent years.
“It’s a complicated situation…,” he recently told Argentinian reporter Roxy Vazquez. “It was a situation that kept developing after all those years on stage, with all the decibels and volume levels for more than 30 years. It’s only natural for your body to react so I had to do what I had to do…
“I had to walk away from the album, from my career and my profession. But it was necessary, something that had to do with my personal life but, I already went through that phase. I wouldn’t want to redo it. I want to just go forward and think about the future.”
However, the singer believes he is on the road to an “almost miraculous” recovery after receiving medical treatment: “It is a condition that I can overcome and I think I’m controlling it to my best ability with the support of my dear people, doctors and the public.”
Miguel’s comments emerge after he abruptly cancelled his weekend (20-22Nov15) shows at the Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City last week, after walking out of two shows at the same venue days earlier.
His representative initially blamed the first scrapped gig on 18 November (15) on “changes in climate and temperature”, which reportedly made it difficult for Miguel to perform, but after his second concert walk out on 19 November (15), his spokesperson revealed the 45 year old was battling rhinopharyngitis – a viral infection of the nose and throat.
He subsequently vowed to press on with his South American tour, which continued in Argentina this week (begs23Nov15).
