Lumley confronted fear of heights for TV temple stunt

The Absolutely Fabulous star travelled to Athens in Greece for her upcoming U.K. series Joanna Lumley’s Greek Odyssey and took part in a series of challenges.

In one of the stunts, Lumley climbed more than 100 feet (30 metres) up scaffolding around the Parthenon temple, despite suffering from vertigo since childhood.

She tells Britain’s The Sun, “It was a terrifying distance from the ground. I had to hold on with both hands and lull myself into not looking down and being okay!

“Almost the greatest dread of my life is vertigo. When I was about seven years old I got stuck on a ladder and my sister had to come and get me down. She had to move every finger and foot. It took about 25 minutes.”

The show debuts on U.K. network ITV1 on 12 October (11).
