Magnum, P.I. star John Hillerman dead at 84

Magnum, P.I. star John Hillerman has died, aged 84.
The Texas native, who portrayed snooty Jonathan Quayle Higgins III on the hit TV show, passed away at his home in Houston on Thursday (09Nov17).
Hillerman was nominated for four Emmy Awards for his role as Higgins on Magnum, P.I., and he won the Best Supporting Actor prize in 1987. He also picked up a Golden Globe in 1982.
Hillerman also appeared on TV shows One Day at a Time, Murder, She Wrote, Hart to Hart, The Love Boat, and The Betty White Show.
He made his film debut in The Last Picture Show and his credits also included Paper Moon, in which he played twins, Clint Eastwood’s western High Plains Drifter, Chinatown and Mel Brooks’ cult comedy Blazing Saddles.
His death comes a week after network bosses at America’s CBS announced plans to revamp Magnum, P.I.
Peter Lenkov, the man behind the Hawaii Five-0 and MacGyver reboots, is working on a remake of the hit 1980s series, which starred Tom Selleck as a laid-back crime solver in Hawaii.
The new Magnum P.I. will feature the same central quartet of characters but Hillerman’s Higgins will now be played by a woman, according to Deadline.
