“The Matrix” is the new king of the DVD world. The Hollywood Reporter reports that the Oscar-winning, special effects-laden blockbuster has sold more than 3 million DVD units since its September release, making it the best-selling title in the digital format’s short history, according to Warner Home Video.
The multi-million mark puts the Keanu Reeves starrer past best-selling DVDs such as “Saving Private Ryan,” “The Sixth Sense,” Disney’s “Tarzan” and “Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me.”
“The Matrix’s” 3-million-unit milestone represents nearly half of the estimated number of DVD players installed in North America (7.5 million).
