Mike Myers is reportedly in talks to appear in upcoming Queen biopic Bohemian Rhapsody.
The actor is known for his comedic roles, having performed on Saturday Night Live from 1989 until 1995 and starred in the Wayne’s World, Austin Powers, and Dreamworks‘ Shrek movies.
However, it appears that Myers career is set to take a serious turn for his next gig, with Deadline reporting that the 54-year-old is in negotiations for a part in the Bryan Singer-directed film about the ’70s rock band.
No other details about what role Myers may be taking in the film have been revealed, though it was previously announced that Mr. Robot star Rami Malek will be portraying frontman Freddie Mercury.
In addition, Joseph Mazzello will play bass guitarist John Deacon, Ben Hardy will take on the role of drummer Roger Taylor and Gwilym Lee will portray lead guitarist Brian May. Also taking key roles in the biopic are Lucy Boynton, who will take on the part of Mercury’s former lover and companion Mary Austin, while Downton Abbey actor Allen Leech has been cast as Mercury’s long-time manager Paul Prenter.
Should Myers‘ part in the film be confirmed it will mark his second association with the epic 1975 Queen hit Bohemian Rhapsody. In his hit 1992 film Wayne’s World, one of the most memorable scenes featuring the actor and his co-star Dana Carvey is set to the tune.
Myers has largely been absent from the silver screen for the past couple of years, apart from appearances in critically panned 2008 film The Love Guru and a small part in Quentin Tarantino’s 2009 film Inglourious Basterds.
He has also been attached to star in a fourth installment of the Austin Powers franchise and linked to Vaughn Stein’s forthcoming Margot Robbie-fronted thriller Terminal.
Bohemian Rhapsody is slated to be released in cinemas from late December 2018.
