Hong Kong TV outlet ATV has paid a fee to the British TV production company Celador, in order to allow it to alter the rules for Who Wants to Be a Millionaire so that it can present contestants competing in pairs. Acknowledging that the format change was “a gimmick,” ATV spokesman Timothy Wong told Wednesday’s South China Morning Post: “We are trying to freshen up the show with new stuff.” He noted that contestants competing as couples might stand a greater chance of winning the $1 million top prize.
